The World’s Largest Artificial Reef

The SS United States is an iconic American ocean liner renowned for its record-breaking speed and innovative design. Launched in 1952, it remains the fastest ocean liner ever built—and today, plans are underway for it to become the world’s largest artificial reef right here in Destin-Fort Walton Beach. This project honors the SS US by preserving its historic legacy while also bringing significant environmental and economic impacts to our region.

Deployment of the SS United States is tentatively planned for 2026.

Diving Destin - the Emerald Coast

Where the Gulf meets one of the world's most pristine coastlines.

Destin sits at the heart of Florida's Emerald Coast — a stretch of sugar-white sand and impossibly clear, jade-green water that gives this region its name. Just beyond the iconic Destin Pass, the Gulf of Mexico opens up into one of the most diverse dive playgrounds in the southeastern United States.

The Pass is our gateway. Every charter from our dock at Heron Harbor Marina heads out through this narrow channel where the bay meets the open Gulf — a stretch famous for its bottlenose dolphin pods, leaping mullet, and the occasional sea turtle surfacing for a breath.

Beyond the Pass, our reefs and wrecks sit in 60 to 110+ feet of water — visibility regularly hitting 40+ feet from May through October. We dive natural limestone ledges, artificial reefs purpose-built for marine life, and historic wrecks like the Miss Louise and the Thomas Hayward Liberty Ship.
